01

Begin with the exact listing and selected option

Save the product link, selected colour, size option, chart and date before paying. Different listings can use different charts even when their photographs look similar. A seller may offer a regular cut and an oversized cut under one page, or combine adult and junior sizes. The chart must describe the option you actually intend to buy.

Write the size system beside the number: UK, EU, US men's, US women's or another stated system. Do not silently convert an unlabelled number. If the chart and the size selector disagree, ask for clarification through the order service before purchase. An answer attached to the order is more useful than a guess copied from a discussion about a different seller.

02

Separate foot length from insole length

Foot length measures your foot. Insole length measures a component inside a shoe. Outsole length measures the external base. These are different quantities and cannot be substituted for one another. A chart labelled foot length should be compared with your foot measurement; an insole photograph should be compared with a suitable reference insole measured by the same method.

Measure both feet while standing on a flat surface, with the socks you expect to wear, and record the longer result. Follow the seller's measuring instructions where provided. Width, toe shape and intended use also affect fit. Avoid adding a universal allowance and treating the result as a guaranteed size: the required room depends on the model and on what the chart already includes.

03

Use UK shoe conversions cautiously

A familiar UK size from a pair you already own helps narrow the options, but it does not prove that another model will fit. Before comparing a UK number with an EU or US number, confirm whether the chart is intended for the exact product, gender range and age range. A generic conversion table cannot resolve inconsistent seller labelling.

If the listing gives only a size label, record the uncertainty instead of inventing centimetres. Ask whether a measurement can be supplied and what it measures. A photograph of the size tag can verify the ordered label, while a measurement addresses dimensions. Neither can fully establish comfort, heel hold, flexibility or fit when walking; those remain limitations of buying without trying the item on.

04

Measure a hoodie that already fits

For clothing, a useful reference is a garment you own and like wearing. Lay it flat without stretching the fabric. Record the measuring points, not just the final numbers. Chest width measured from armpit to armpit is not the same as body chest circumference, and garment length measured from a shoulder point is not automatically comparable with length measured from the back collar.

For a hoodie, compare chest width, shoulder width where the construction permits it, body length and sleeve length. Note whether the sleeves are set-in or raglan, because the starting point may differ. Keep the same tape position when reading warehouse photographs. A relaxed fit is a preference to describe with measurements; it is not a reason to select an arbitrary larger letter size.

05

Work through a simple hoodie comparison

Imagine a reference hoodie measures 58 cm across the chest and 68 cm in body length. A fictional seller chart lists M at 56 cm and 67 cm, L at 59 cm and 69 cm, and XL at 62 cm and 71 cm. If both charts use the same flat measuring points, L is the closest numerical comparison across those two dimensions.

That does not establish the final size by itself. The shoulder, sleeve, hem shape, fabric stretch and intended fit may change the decision. Do not compare the reference's 58 cm flat width with a chart value described as 116 cm body circumference unless the seller confirms what that number represents. Two similar totals can refer to different measurements and create false confidence.

06

Translate a preference into a useful photo request

The USFans Detailed Photo help page describes an optional service for specific close-ups and measurements. It asks users to identify the stored item and explain the requested views clearly. A useful request specifies the dimension, tape starting point, tape ending point, unit and whether the item should lie flat without stretching. Check current availability and cost in the account before ordering extra photos.

For example, request a flat chest-width photograph with both tape endpoints visible rather than asking whether a hoodie is true to size. For shoes, identify the pair, selected label size and the precise measurement you need. Ask whether a removable insole can be measured safely; do not assume that every shoe permits removal or that an outside measurement answers the same question.

07

Read the photograph before reading the number

Check that the image belongs to your order and shows the correct colour and size label. Then inspect the tape itself. Its zero point and final point should be visible, the scale should be legible, and the garment should not be stretched or folded across the measured area. A tape running diagonally can give a different result from a straight measurement between agreed points.

If the image is unclear, request a better view before interpreting a small difference. The official Detailed Photo page distinguishes standard warehouse angles from requested detailed views and describes retakes when requirements are not met. This is a service description, not proof that a particular measurement is correct. Assess the actual image and ask a focused follow-up when the evidence is incomplete.

08

Compare the result with the seller's own tolerance

A stated measurement tolerance belongs to the relevant listing or chart. Do not borrow a tolerance from another product, and do not create one when none is supplied. First rule out a difference in measurement method. Then compare the observed dimensions with the saved chart and with the reference garment that fits you.

Decide whether the remaining difference would matter in use. An acceptable body length does not compensate for sleeves that fail your requirement. If the label or measurement appears wrong, keep the item out of the international parcel while asking about the available correction or return process. The outcome depends on the current order and seller conditions; this guide cannot promise an exchange or refund.

09

Keep one size record through the whole order

Use a short record with five fields: listing and variant, chart definition, reference measurement, requested warehouse view and decision. Keep the original chart alongside later images. This makes it possible to distinguish a wrong ordered option, a seller label mismatch, a measurement disagreement and a personal fit preference. Those are different issues and need different explanations.

Once the checks are complete, continue with the general QC guide for visible condition and the shipping guide for parcel planning. Do not turn a size decision into an automatic approval of every other feature. Equally, do not keep buying additional photographs that cannot resolve a comfort question. The purpose is a clear, documented decision using the evidence that a remote purchase can actually provide.
